Already this year, we’ve experienced how random disasters can strike quickly and disrupt lives. From tornadoes and floods to blizzard conditions and a heat wave, we have observed the devastation that can occur with little or no advanced warning. To help mitigate damage and disruption from these and other possible emergencies, St. Charles County residents, businesses and governmental agencies can work together. This cohesiveness and advanced preparations will also enable your workforce a better opportunity to return to work quickly and to continue operations as normal.
The county’s Department of Community Health and the Environment and the Division of Emergency Management are coordinating with local, state, and federal agencies to prepare our community’s response in times of need. To most effectively manage these efforts, a new committee – the St. Charles County Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD) – has been formed. Non-profit, governmental, volunteer, faith-based, public service, and private business organizations are invited to join this group, that seeks to meet unmet needs and minimize duplication of services. For information on your group joining St. Charles County’s COAD, please call (636) 949-3023,
In addition to these preparations by others, it’s also important that you and your business follow a three-step emergency plan to help protect you, your family, and your business. The first step is to “Create a Plan” that is understood by all members of your group. This plan should determine how and where you would meet and should consider at least two scenarios — staying in place and evacuating. Step two, “Prepare a Kit,” involves supplying your family, coworkers and pets with materials to sustain them with necessities for up to three days. The last step, “Listen for Information,” will prepare you to receive life-saving updates in a time of crisis by listing ways to learn the latest news.
An emergency kit is easy to prepare using items you may already have on hand. Collecting one gallon of water per person, per day and non-perishable foods (along with a can opener) will provide nourishment. A battery-powered radio, flashlights, and extra batteries will enable you receive important updates to help protect your family if power is lost. The pack should also contain prescription medicines and a First Aid kit to care for minor injuries. Storing the kit in a waterproof and easily transportable case will allow you to bring it with you if you need to evacuate. To view what should be kept in a Ready in 3 kit, please click here.

 Guidelines for Infant Formula Preparation
Recently, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services has received concerns regarding the safe use of powdered baby formula.
