Before choosing a hauling company, it may be helpful to note a list of questions to determine if one meets your needs more than another. Some points to consider are:
- What day of the week do they pick up?
- Do they offer curbside recycling?
- Do they offer curbside composting?
- Do they collect major appliances?

Solid Waste Regulations
Chapter 240 of the St. Charles County Code is the legal authority for solid waste management activities in unincorporated St. Charles County and in municipalities that contract with the County to enforce the code. Chapter 240 is available in Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat.

AREA LANDFILLS AND WASTE PROCESSING FACILIITIES |

Within St. Charles County, there is one waste transfer station in Foristell and a material recovery facility (MRF) in St. Peters. At the current time there are no landfills in St. Charles County. More than likely, your waste is hauled across the Missouri or Mississippi River to one of the landfills listed below.
In 1990 there were 13 sanitary landfills in the St. Louis metropolitan area ( Missouri and Illinois), with an estimated remaining lifespan of 8.8 years. One landfill was publicly owned. By 1995-1996, there were seven sanitary landfills in the region: three in Missouri and four in Illinois. All landfills being privately owned and operated. Since 1990, six sanitary landfills have closed and one has been decommissioned.
