WANTED: Schools to Participate in Chemical Cleanout

Outdated, dangerous, and unstable lab chemicals are being removed from Missouri classrooms thanks to a project funded by the Department of Natural Resources. So far, 239 elementary, middle, vocational, and high schools have taken advantage of the program. To date, more than 16,000 pounds of chemicals have been removed from science classrooms and labs and safely discarded.

MDNR is partnering with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Center for Safe Schools to promote this project. Because funds are still available, the application deadline has been extended to December 31, 2008. This will allow even more schools to safely dispose of these dangerous substances.

For more information on the program, call 1-800-361-4827 or visit www.dnr.mo.gov/env/schoolcleanout.htm.
