General Information
St. Charles County is among the fastest growing areas in the United States. What was
once farmland and open prairie is now experiencing rapid development. The county's
numerous public water providers currently serve a majority of county residents. The
U.S Environmental Protection agency and the
State of Missouri
Department of Natural Resources strictly
regulate public water providers. However, hundreds of private water wells and cisterns,
which provide drinking water to thousands of county residents, are still in use.
These private water supplies can provide their owners with an ample supply of drinking
water, but they require routine maintenance and testing to assure their ongoing purity.
To assist the homeowner, we offer private drinking water test kits that can be submitted
to the state health laboratory in Jefferson City for microbiological testing. The state
lab also provides selected chemical tests for fluoride and nitrates.
Note: Many mortgage lenders now require a satisfactory private well water sample
before closing on a home loan. The test kit available from our office is NOT an
official sample and will be reported on a slip that clearly states: Unofficial sample.
Not to be used for loan approval. You will need to contact a licensed individual to
collect your sample. Your real estate agent should be able to provide you with a list
of licensed well inspectors who can take an official sample.
