WALK YOUR DOG - OR ONE OF OURS - AT QUAIL RIDGE PARK

St. Charles County Parks Department - On the first Wednesday morning of each month, guests can walk the trails at Quail Ridge Park with their dog — or one of ours!  In cooperation with the St. Charles County Pet Adoption Center, the Parks Department will offer free guided walks along Quail Ridge Park’s paved trail and opportunities to play inside the Off-Leash Dog Area.  Along with the fitness and fun, the programs will include a brief discussion on pet care, pet safety, and other related topics.

Leaving from Shelter #6, these two-hour Paws on Parade walks will depart at 8:30 a.m.  Walks are planned April 2, May 7, June 4, July 2, August 6, September 3, and October 1 on a weather-permitting basis.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own pets, but dogs may be “borrowed” from the Pet Adoption Center.  Those wishing to exercise with a shelter dog are asked to call the Parks Department before noon on the Monday prior to the walk to ensure that enough animals will be available.  To request a dog or to register to participate, please call 636-949-7535.

“Based on the number of people and pets enjoying our Off-Leash Dog Areas at Quail Ridge and Broemmelsiek parks every day, we expect this program to be extremely popular,” St. Charles County Parks Department Director Bettie Yahn-Kramer said.  “Along with a fun way to exercise in the beautiful outdoors, we hope that the Paws on Parade program will educate guests about responsible pet ownership.”

Quail Ridge Park is located near the intersection of Interstate 70 and Highway 40/61 in Wentzville.  From I-70, turn South on Highway 40 to the first stoplight (Callahan Road) and turn right.  Make an immediate right from Callahan Road onto Quail Ridge Parkway and follow into the park.  Shelter #6 and the Quail Ridge Off-Leash Dog Area are located on PawPaw Drive.

St. Charles County Parks operates two dog parks that are free and open to all guests that comply with posted park rules.  Opened in 2003, the Off-Leash Dog Area at Quail Ridge Park was the first of its kind in St. Charles County.  It offers 1.5 fenced acres in which dogs may play, as well as a covered shelter and benches; nearby restrooms, swings, and a water fountain; and a “small dog” play area for the little breeds.  The three-acre dog park at Broemmelsiek Park features a covered pavilion, benches, shade trees, nearby restrooms, and a small pond for water fun.  For information on all St. Charles County Parks Department events and facilities, please visit www.stccparks.org or call 636-949-7535.
