ServSafe Manager Certification Training

St. Charles County will offer classes in English, Bosnian

 

St. Charles County, MO -

The St. Charles County Department of Community Health and the Environment is offering ServSafe Manager Certification Training in May. This class prepares those who are in charge of food service operations to take the exam for ServSafe certification, which is required by the county food code. For the first time ever, the department is offering the course in Bosnian.

"With the growing population of Bosnians in the St. Louis metro area, we felt it was important to offer a class in their native language," said Pieter Sheehan, manager of the Environmental Public Health Program for St. Charles County. "Not only is this a first for St. Charles County, we believe this is the first time anyone has offered ServSafe instruction in Bosnian anywhere in Missouri."

While the class will be taught in Bosnian, students will take the ServSafe examination in English.

The ServSafe class uses a mix of lecture, tabletop exercise, and video presentations. Students will also get an approach to food safety management from a health inspector's point of view. The principles covered in the training include an introduction to food safety, food hazards and illness, preventing foodborne illness, and food safety control.

The class in Bosnian is scheduled for Monday, May 19. The English language section will take place on Tuesday, May 20. Both classes will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the St. Charles County Administration Building, 201 N. Second St. in St. Charles.

Tuition for the class is $75. Included in the cost is the book "Food Safety Management Principles", a copy of the St. Charles County Food Establishment Code, the ServSafe Exam, and professional instruction by a county health inspector. Space is limited. Registration for either section of the ServSafe training ends on April 22.
