FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Friday, April 06, 2001
County Celebrates Earth Day with Enhanced Recycling Services St. Charles County - Sunday, April 22 is Earth Day. 2001 marks the 31st year of the day that promotes the importance of maintaining and preserving the earth's environmental resources through recycling. As Earth Day approaches, St. Charles County Government is pleased to offer the recycling of two additional items. Residents may now bring old computers and empty ink and toner cartridges to the St. Charles County Recycling Center located at 2110 East Pitman Avenue in Wentzville. Ink and toner cartridges distributed under the brand names of Hewlett Packard, Canon, Lexmark, Epson, Sharp, Xerox and Lexmark are all recyclable and will be accepted at the facility. Residents who intend to recycle a working computer system are encouraged to consider offering the unit to individuals or charities for reuse before bringing it to the recycling center. If confidential or personal information is stored on the computer's hard drive, it is recommended that such data be erased prior to dropping off a used computer for recycling. In celebration of Earth Day and the facility's acceptance of new items, St. Charles County will give out 25 Earth Day tee shirts on Saturday, April 21 to the first customers recycling either an old computer or ink cartridges on that day. Tree seedlings will also be available free of charge to interested recycling patrons who visit the center. Contact the St. Charles County Division of Environmental Services at 636-949-7415 for further details on recycling and the environment. For more comprehensive information 24 hours a day, visit the Department of Community Health and the Environment website at www.scchealth.org. ### [GO BACK] |
