Unique Recycling Opportunities Available at Recycle Works
Redesign Offers Convenient Access to Detailed Information

St. Charles County (April 14, 2004) - Saturday, April 17 marks a new era in recycling with the opening of St. Charles County Government’s newest recycling center, “Recycle Works.” The new 6,523 square foot facility, located at 60 Triad South Drive in St. Peters, will recycle items requiring special handling such as electronic waste (e-waste) and appliances. Recycle Works is one of only two government-owned facilities statewide that accept e-waste on a regular basis. Additionally, the center also recycles cardboard and mixed fiber. Household hazardous waste collections begin this fall, enhancing the center’s benefit to area residents and the environment. The St. Charles County Division of Environmental Services held a ribbon cutting today to dedicate the facility.

“Recycle Works offers residents a convenient option for disposing of unique recyclables and provides safe, efficient and environmentally sound management of wastes generated in our community,” said Mike Duvall, Director of St. Charles County’s Environmental Services Division.

The opening of Recycle Works is a progressive and necessary step toward waste diversion. An estimated 500 million computers will be obsolete by 2007 and each year consumers purchase approximately 60 million new appliances. Such statistics illustrate the importance of environmentally friendly disposal of hard-to-handle waste. Items that the public can bring to Recycle Works beginning Saturday include computers and related equipment, cellular telephones and batteries, refrigerators and other white goods, printers, copiers, fax machines, furnaces, and air conditioners.

Recycle Works will be open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays and 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Contact the St. Charles County Division of Environmental Services at 636-949-7415 for more information about Recycle Works.
