FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 5, 2007 CONTACT: What Can You Do About Pandemic Flu? Faith−based organizations invited to free workshop St. Charles County, MO - Experts agree that a global influenza outbreak, or pandemic, will happen sometime in the future. Millions of people will get sick, overwhelming our health care system. Millions more may be forced to stay home from work or school. Every sector of the community will be affected. To help faith−based organizations with their flu pandemic planning, the St. Charles County Department of Community Health and the Environment is joining with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services to put on a free workshop. It will take place on Wednesday, May 23 from 10:00am to 12:00 noon at O'Fallon City Hall, 100 North Main Street. Professionals from several health disciplines will present information on pandemic preparedness, government planning, and pandemic flu resources. "This workshop will help leaders in faith communities throughout St. Charles County learn more about the threat of a future flu pandemic," says Hope Woodson, public health response planner for the Department of Community Health and the Environment. "We can't predict when the next flu pandemic will strike, but we can all take steps now to prepare ourselves for this looming threat." Advance registration is required. Contact Hope Woodson at (636) 949-7554 or e-mail woodsh@lpha.dhss.mo.gov.
