FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday, September 15, 2004 September is National Preparedness Month St. Charles County - St. Charles County Department of Community Health and the Environment has joined the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and a coalition of more than 50 national organizations to engage Americans in emergency preparedness by observing September as National Preparedness Month. During National Preparedness Month, collation partners will promote the basic steps all Americans can take to prepare for emergencies through a variety of activities. “National Preparedness Month brings together an amazing coalition of partners to make citizen preparedness a priority for every city, every neighborhood and every home across America,” said Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge. “Homeland security is a shared responsibility and I am pleased that so many organizations and so many national leaders are working together to help get this information out and into communities across the nation.” Missouri’s Ready in 3 campaign is a state public service campaign designed to educate and empower citizens to prepare for and respond to all types of emergencies. Citizens can be prepared in less than an hour with just three simple steps: 1. Create an emergency plan for you, your family and your business. 2. Prepare a portable emergency kit for home, car and work. 3. Listen for information about what to do and where to go during an actual emergency. Emergencies can affect anyone, but by being Ready in 3, you’ve made the decision to take an active role in your safety and the safety of the ones you love.
