Household Hazardous Waste Collection Ending Soon

St. Charles County, MO - If you have fertilizer left over from this year's vegetable garden or some old paint still sitting in the garage, now is the time to dispose of those hazardous chemicals before winter sets in.

The best way to get rid of these unused products is to use them up, or give them away to someone who can use them. If that's not possible, St. Charles County will accept household hazardous waste for disposal from now through October 31 at Recycle Works Central, 60 Triad South Drive in St. Charles.

Look for the words "WARNING" or "DANGER" on the label to determine if a product contains hazardous chemicals. Common household hazardous wastes include paint, stain, paint thinner, cleaners, solvents, antifreeze, motor oil, and batteries. For a complete list of items accepted at Recycle Works, visit the St. Charles County Division of Environmental Services homepage at www.scchealth.org/docs//es.

Paint and other chemicals are accepted at Recycle Works Central without an appointment Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 to 11:00am. Paint only is accepted on Saturdays from 9:00 to 11:00am. If you are unable to make these times, appointments can be booked by calling (636) 949-7900, extension 4271. Again, household hazardous waste collection ends on October 31, but will resume again next spring.
