St. Charles County Pet Adoption Center and Local Schools
Partner with ASPCA to Teach Humane Services
Program will distribute humane education material to local schools throughout the country

St. Charles County -The St. Charles County Pet Adoption Center and local schools are joining forces with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals® to teach humane services. The ASPCA is partnering with select animal shelters to distribute humane education materials to elementary schools in Alaska, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, and Tennessee. The materials provide teachers with ways they can integrate humane education into their classrooms while preparing the students for the requirements made by the No Child Left Behind Act.

In Missouri, they are partnering with The St. Charles County Pet Adoption Center and Animal Protective Association of Missouri. People living in these areas can contact these local organizations to learn more about the ways they help save animals and teach kindness.

“This program and these free materials are excellent tools for teachers to educate children on respect and kindness for all animals and the importance of responsible pet ownership,” stated Theresa Williams, Director of Humane Services for St. Charles County.

The set is designed to integrate with and complement school curricula in language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, and art. Most of the donated materials are written in both English and Spanish. Activities such as “Animal Jeopardy” and “Humane Heroes” help children understand the needs of animals while motivating kids to help. All lessons are reproducible, can be used over multiple years, and are designed to be shared by all K-5 teachers at each school.

The St. Charles County Pet Adoption Center serves St. Charles County through sheltering and adopting animals, providing pet owner education, animal control services, and investigation of incidents involving animal cruelty and neglect. Visit the Pet Adoption Center at 4850 Mid Rivers Mall Drive, online at www.scchealth.org or call 636-949-PETS (7387) for more information.
