February 27, 1876 Tornado killed
2 people and injured several others in St. Charles.
July 7, 1915 Tornado killed
4, injured several others and blew down St. Charles Borromeo
Church & damaged homes in St. Charles, St. Peters &
Wentzville.
March 31, 1938 Tornado struck
St. Charles and several sites in Illinois, killed 7 in Pekin,
Illinois.
March 25, 1948 Tornado killed
2 at Smartt Field Airport, then an inactive Navy airport 11
miles north of St. Charles.
March 31, 1972 Tornado damaged
several homes, in St. Charles.
April 11, 1972 Tornado toppled
Union Electric communication tower near Hwy 94 & 70.
July 1, 1978 Severe Thunderstorm
and possibly tornado hit a harbor in Portage Des Sioux and
killed 1 person.
July 21, 1981 Severe Thunderstorm
injured 21 people, two seriously. Wind destroyed 5 mobile
homes west of Weldon Spring at TK Mobile.
April 2, 1982 Tornado or straight
line winds damaged 15 mobile homes in Wentzville.
December 2, 1982 Severe Thunderstorm
(straight line winds or micro downburst) destroyed more than
40 mobile homes in Bedford Village Mobile Home Park, St. Charles,
39 injured.
May 1, 1983 Lines of severe
thunderstorms moved into St. Charles County bringing several
tornados. One severely damaged businesses along Main Street,
O'Fallon; roof blown off apartment complex & destroyed
mobile homes. Knocked out power and telephone communications.
July 10, 1986 Strong winds
toppled a house under construction south of O'Fallon, killing
a boy and injuring 2 construction workers.
November 15, 1988 Tornado hits
O'Fallon, 2 injured, 200 displaced, 120 homes & businesses
damaged. 45 days after Tornado Exercise, O'Fallon, Missouri.
November 27, 1990 Tornado hits
O'Fallon, 25 injured, 54 homes & businesses damaged, DataPage
Industry destroyed & tractor trailers overturned. A month
previous, EMD trained DataPage employees on earthquakes &
tornadoes - minor injuries & no deaths!
July 31, 1993 Tornados spotted
north of Mid-Rivers Mall that created 5 to 6 foot waves, in
Portage Des Sioux and West Alton, during the Great Flood of
1993. High risks to emergency personnel at sandbag sites and
rescue marine craft, as well.
