VOLUNTEER!

Whether you have an hour or a summer, you can help keep St. Charles County a beautiful place to live and work. Give our office a call if you have ideas or can help with projects such as:

  • Educational programs
  • Roadside litter pickup
  • Office assistance
  • Stream cleanups

COMMISSION ON ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY

Get involved! St. Charles County Government makes sure that YOUR voice is heard when it comes to environmental concerns. Commission on Environmental Quality is an appointed task force of county residents that examines environmental issues and goals. Meetings are usually held the last Wednesday of every month in Room 115 of the St. Charles County Administration Building, 201 North Second Street. Meetings are open to the public. (The calendar lists upcoming meeting dates & changes.)

PROTECT WATER RESOURCES

  • Never litter or pour chemicals on the ground or in sewers. Sewers lead straight the nearest water body without being cleaned.
  • Landscape wisely. Select plants that don’t need extra water, fertilizer, or pesticides. Over-watering can leach fertilizers into ground water.
  • Clean up after your pets. Pet waste can contaminate surface water.
  • Form a Stream Team. Know what’s in the water by testing it!
  • Get involved. Many citizens, just like you, have formed local watershed alliances to work on water issues.

REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE

Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, the " 3 R's of Solid Waste Management" is an easy and effective way that all of us can protect our environment. Listed by order of importance:

Reduce the waste we create in the first place,

Reuse all items you possibly can, and then,

Recycle what you can't reduce or reuse.
