Mobile Food Facilities Application

The Mobile Food Unit is responsible for issuing permits, conducting inspections, investigating citizen complaints, investigating food-borne illnesses, providing consultation and customer service for the following types of operations:
MOBILE FOOD UNIT: means and refers to an enclosed vehicle-mounted food service establishment designated to be readily movable from which food is composed, compounded, processed or prepared and from which food is vended, sold or given away.
PUSHCART: means and refers to a non-self-propelled vehicle designated to be readily movable which is limited to the serving of non-potentially hazardous foods, commissary-wrapped potentially hazardous foods maintained at proper temperatures, and usually limited to assembling and serving of frankfurters. Unpackaged non-potentially hazardous food items approved for sale from a pushcart usually include popcorn, nuts, produce, pretzels and similar bakery products, shaved ice, and snow cones.
FOOD PEDDLER: means and refers to a retail food establishment operating from a vehicle designated to be readily movable. The following food (that is properly labeled) can be vended, sold, or given away:
  • non-potentially hazardous foods or packaged potentially hazardous foods held at proper temperatures, frozen, or canned prepared food which is wrapped, packaged, portioned, kept in ready-to-eat units
  • raw fruits and vegetables

A food peddler can not compose, compound, thaw, reheat, cut, cook, process or prepare the food being sold or given away. Food peddlers may dispense fountain drinks, hot drinks, and assemble snow cones from approved and properly installed equipment.
COMMISSARY: means a catering establishment, restaurant, or a permitted storage units in which food, containers, or supplies are kept, handled, prepared, packaged or stored for subsequent transport, sale, or service elsewhere. The commissary facility must meet the minimum requirements for washing & sanitizing equipment, disposing liquid waste from unit, receiving portable water for the unit, storage of food in refrigerators, meet sanitary conditions, etc. All mobile facilities need the use of a commissary.

Office Inspection Hours

Our office is open for business Monday through Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Please note that initial mobile food inspections are only conducted by appointment. The office will be closed on holidays.
